The Lanzarote Business Confederation (CEL) demands that the Government of Spain comply with 100% of the compensation for the costs of transporting goods to avoid the bankruptcy and disappearance of numerous companies in the Archipelago.
The president of the CEL, Francisco Martínez, points out that "said compensation is included in the Economic and Fiscal Regime of the Canary Islands (REF)" and warns of the need for it to "be fully respected", since "the increase in the costs of transporting goods has increased by up to 600% as a result of the escalation of fuel prices and other socioeconomic circumstances derived from the war in Ukraine", as reflected in the latest studies, such as the one carried out by the Industrial Association of the Canary Islands.
Likewise, he denounces that, despite the fact that said increase has occurred, "the business sector does not receive a proportionally greater compensation, so they must assume costs that, on many occasions, will cause them insurmountable losses." For this reason, he insists on the need to alleviate the grievance that companies in the Canary Islands, in general, and in Lanzarote, in particular, are suffering".
Francisco Martínez states that "our status as an outermost region must be respected so that the business fabric remains competitive, since otherwise many companies, especially the smallest ones, could disappear and produce negative effects on employment and the economy of the Archipelago".
