Lanzarote registered 4,934 businesses in the month of April, 33 more than in March, which represents an increase of 0.7%, according to a report by ISTAC collected by the Lanzarote Data Center
If compared with the figures from last year, the difference is much greater, since in April 2021 there were only 4,460 companies on the island, 9.6% less.
By municipalities, Arrecife concentrated the bulk of the companies with 4,934, followed by Tías with 1,051 and Teguise with 708. Finally, Tinajo and Haría are the areas with the fewest registrations, with only 132 and 111 respectively.
It should be noted that the figures improve throughout the island compared to the month of March, with the exception of the municipality of San Bartolomé, where they fall by 9 points.
The service sector, hospitality and vehicle repair predominate
Specifically, the service sector brings together the majority of companies, with 4,228 of the total, followed by hospitality with 1,243 and wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles with 1,006 businesses. It should be noted that those activities of extraterritorial organizations and bodies, as well as public administration and defense, did not register any company in the Social Security.
In their great majority they were small businesses, since 4,159 of the total had nine workers at most, 645 between 10 and 49, 115 between 50 and 249 employees and 15 had more than 250. Regarding their legal nature, 2,195 belonged to natural persons and 2,739 to legal persons.

This has been a consequence of the increases experienced in all the islands, with Lanzarote being the third with the most registrations, only behind Tenerife (27,234) and Gran Canaria (23,592).
In fourth position is Fuerteventura, with 3,411 companies, followed by La Palma (2,468), La Gomera (627) and El Hierro (319).
