Deputy Meri Pita will lead the candidacy of 'In the Canary Islands We Can', which will compete in the primaries of the purple formation in which Noemí Santana's replacement will be elected at the head of the general secretariat.

Pita, who is part of the state leadership led by Pablo Iglesias, thus aspires to regain control of the party in the islands, of which she was already general secretary. Prior to this announcement, her environment had initiated a collection of signatures that has gathered 1,200 supports "for her to lead the list and bring a change of direction to the organization".

The candidacy 'In the Canary Islands We Can' criticizes the "abandonment of the militancy" by the outgoing autonomous leadership, since it states that it has been "instrumentalized as battalions for sticking posters and similar tasks in electoral periods" and "has not received any economic support, despite the fact that the budgets of the Autonomous Citizen Council indicate entries of 37,000 euros per month in the party".

With her candidacy, Pita defends "dedicating economic resources to the work of the militancy and the creation of spaces for the accountability of organic and institutional positions" and considers it "fundamental" that the future leadership of Podemos be "coral" and exercised by a coordinator composed "by several people and with representation from all the islands".

To these proposals, the candidate has added increasing the representation of the militancy in the leadership with two thirds and the creation of a permanent advisory council with representatives and experts from Civil Society, from the different organizations and groups "to advise, guide and enrich" Podemos Canarias in the different themes.
