The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Security and Emergency Consortium, will send a human and material team to the island of La Palma in the next few hours, to join the emergency device that has been deployed due to the volcanic eruption that began this Sunday in Cumbre Vieja.
The team is made up of a corporal and three firefighters, as well as two vehicles, a BUP (Heavy Urban Pump) and a Romero, and a light intervention vehicle. "They will work, side by side, with the personnel and resources of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, to quell the ravages of the volcano and the sea of lava that is devastating everything, homes, cultivation areas and other infrastructures," they say from the Cabildo.
"This natural catastrophe is causing a real drama since hundreds of families have lost absolutely everything they had and thousands of other people continue to be evacuated due to the advance of the lava. Lanzarote is with La Palma and, from here, we want to convey all our solidarity to the people of La Palma", says the president, María Dolores Corujo.
The Security Councilor, Francisco Javier Aparicio, highlights that "from minute one", the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote, "has made available to the joint operation of the Consortiums of Tenerife and Gran Canaria as many troops as necessary to collaborate in the evacuation and fire extinguishing tasks."
Aparicio adds that, "in this way, every week and for as long as necessary, a team of four firefighters will travel from Lanzarote who will rotate to guarantee a continuous and professional service that will assist in the emergency area of La Palma."
From the Island Council they recall that the lava flows from the La Palma volcano, as they advance towards the sea, "have covered, so far, more than a hundred hectares of land and have destroyed 166 houses and other properties in their path, affecting the municipalities of El Paso, Los Llanos de Aridane and Tazacorte."
