Hermine Downgraded to Depression but Intense Rain Forecast Remains

According to the National Hurricane Center website, Tropical Storm Hermine is encountering unfavorable conditions and will soon be downgraded to a tropical depression. This circumstance makes the winds in the center of the cyclone less intense. However, the forecast of heavy rains for the Canary Islands does not vary.

Until this Saturday afternoon, the storm had caused minor incidents in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Gomera and El Hierro, such as power outages or landslides, reports 112.

In Tenerife, there have been problems with the electricity supply and landslides on roads in several municipalities, traffic light failures in the capital, water pumping and some minor falls on public roads.

In Gran Canaria there have also been incidents in the power lines in the municipalities of Firgas, La Aldea, Arucas, Valsequillo, Gáldar and in the area of ​​the capital of Gran Canaria. Likewise, on that island stones have fallen on some roads and there have been traffic light failures, and there have been specific problems with water pumping in Telde.

In El Hierro, there have also been incidents in the power lines and in La Gomera there have been landslides on some roads on the islands, while in La Palma, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote no relevant incidents have been recorded so far.
