The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, was on the program Buenos días, Lanzarote on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero this Wednesday to address some issues regarding various political and island management topics.

One of the topics he has addressed has been that of the islandist party led by Óscar Noda, which is in the process of formation and will be presented next January. Regarding this, Betancort has stated that "in life, you have to surround yourself with good rivals because they make you leave your comfort zone".

In this regard, he continued by saying that "I congratulate the affiliates and sympathizers of UPY, that this decision has gone through the party's bodies and that they have decided to join an islander party because anything that is for the good of Lanzarote will have my support"."I come to politics to dialogue, no matter how much people think I don't talk to anyone, and it's a decision in which I wish them the best and that they rise to the occasion," he continued.Furthermore, he has emphasized that "when you step outside your sphere and get arrogant, you lose humility and look for winners and losers, but I don't; we must trust ourselves and the marvel that Lanzarote possesses because the Canary Islands are unique in the world regarding the environment, knowledge, and creativity." "We are no longer in the 16th century, we are in the 21st century and we have the best generation, so **if this initiative comes about, with dialogue, the sum yields benefit**," he details.

When asked if he would run as the Coalición Canaria candidate for the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the president said yes. "I want to run for the island's Cabildo and I will do so, another thing is whether the affiliates and supporters want me to run, but if they say no, I will call Óscar Noda," he said, laughing. However, he pointed out that if another supporter wants to step forward, they can do so.

On the other hand, at the end of the interview, Betancort recounted as an anecdote, in reference to a comment made to him a few days ago by a PSOE affiliate. "He told me, Oswaldo, you are from the Socialist Party, and I told him not to say that to me, but he commented that never before had so much social policy been applied as now," he revealed.

"I'm not from the PSOE because I don't have money, but in social policies, I have Marci Acuña who is on the front lines every day, and we've put money and empathy into it," he concluded
