The General Directorate for the Protection of Children and Families of the Canary Islands Government has managed in the last three months to have several NGOs dismiss workers from children's centers on the islands for "a lack of good treatment" towards children and adolescents.
This was stated to EFE by the head of this department, Sandra Rodríguez, after it became known that the pilot court for violence against Children and Adolescents of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has agreed to the closure and judicial sealing of the center for minors with reform measures EMENA la Fortaleza I for the alleged commission inside of hate crimes and injuries, among others.
The head of this General Directorate of the Ministry of Social Welfare has reported that when this department becomes aware of the possible commission of crimes such as those presumed in this case, either through inspections carried out within the framework of its vulnerability detection protocol, or through complaints received from workers or the Canary Islands Health Service or educational centers, it communicates it to the corresponding court for investigation.
Therefore, in the last three months, and after receiving complaints of flagrant situations of violations of the best interests of the minor, it has demanded that several entities that manage this type of center temporarily remove the workers responsible for the care of these minors.
A requirement, she stressed, to which these NGOs have responded with the dismissal of these workers.
In the case registered this morning by agents of the Canary Police, the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands has reported that the judicial decision that has been adopted responds to "the numerous evidence and testimonies received about the alleged commission inside this center of the crimes of injuries, hatred, omission of the duty to prevent crimes or promote their prosecution, against moral integrity and threats".
This juvenile center was managed by the entity 'Quorum 77' on the outskirts of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on the Bandama road, and its closure and sealing has been agreed within the framework of an investigation for alleged crimes of injuries, hatred, against moral integrity and threats.
The proceedings, which have been declared secret, also seek to clarify possible crimes of omission of the duty to prevent crimes or promote their prosecution.
