Coalición Canaria designated this Tuesday Carlos Alonso as a candidate for the European elections to be held on June 9 and in which they will compete in alliance with the Basque Nationalist Party, PNV. This was approved this Tuesday unanimously by the National Executive Committee, CEN, of the Canarian nationalists.
The national secretary of Organization of Coalición Canaria, David Toledo, argued that the nationalists "are prepared and face with enthusiasm and responsibility a challenge in which the Canary Islands plays its role in the European Union and the defense of its singularities as a RUP territory."
In this regard, he pointed out that Carlos Alonso "is the only guarantee not to take steps backwards in the status of the islands as an outermost region and in compliance with article 349 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, TFEU, at a time of structural changes marked by a new migration policy that must be developed taking into account the emergency in the islands and our situation as the southern border of Europe, the rise in prices, the defense of the primary sector or green policies."
The nationalist candidate for the European elections, Carlos Alonso, who will compete in number two on the list of the alliance with the PNV, called on citizens "to take an interest in the issues that affect the Canary Islands in the field of the European Union", among which he highlighted those related to security, agricultural policy, climate change or migratory flows. He also stressed the importance of the appointment with the polls next June for the Canary Islanders because "our main source of development and progress is Europe and, therefore, these elections are key for the archipelago."
Toledo also reported that Coalición Canaria has initiated contacts with other nationalist political forces in Galicia, Comunidad Valenciana, Navarra and Catalonia, as well as with other island and local Canarian forces in order to join efforts and support "in a single voice that builds a Europe from the bottom up, attending to the territories."
On the other hand, the National Secretary of Organization reported that the National Executive Committee assessed other issues of political actualidad, among which he highlighted the balance of action in the first eight months of management in the past debate on the state of Canarian nationality and challenges such as the demographic challenge that will be addressed in the first conference of presidents convened by the president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and that will take place at the end of this month of April, as well as the Canary Islands-State bilateral commission that will address the transfer of Coasts as stated in the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands.
In the same way, the CEN addressed the actions that have been carried out from the Government of the Canary Islands presided over by Fernando Clavijo to obtain information from the Government of the State on the military maneuvers initiated by Morocco last Friday in waters off the coast of Western Sahara. In this regard, Toledo stressed that "the opacity of the Government of Spain in a matter as delicate as this is not acceptable. The Canary Islands should have been informed of the maneuvers initiated by the neighboring country," he concluded.
