The Government Council of the Canary Islands has approved this morning a budget modification to increase the financial contribution by 1.5 million euros to the three island fire consortiums operating in the archipelago, attached to the councils of Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote.

The budget item of the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water, destined to subsidize the operation of the fire consortiums, thus registers in 2024 an increase of 7.6% compared to the previous year.

The objective of this increase is to guarantee the mobilization of the necessary island resources in case of regional-level emergencies, without causing damage to the public accounts of the respective consortiums in which the Government of the Canary Islands participates.

The increase of 1.5 million euros approved this Monday means equaling the amounts that the consortiums had been receiving in the past year, to which is also added an increase of 125,000 euros added for each consortium.

The Government of the Canary Islands values in this way the contribution that the island fire extinguishing and rescue bodies make every day to the Canary public civil protection system, integrated into the island councils of Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote.
