Of the 25,618 people who have been infected by coronavirus from May 10 to July 17 in Spain, 50% do not know how they became infected, according to the latest report prepared by the National Epidemiological Surveillance Network (Renave) and the Carlos III Health Institute. Of the 12,715 who do not know how they have been infected, 44 are from the Canary Islands.
As for the rest of the people who do not know how they have been infected, 8,160 are from Catalonia and 1,214 from the Community of Madrid. In addition, in Andalusia there are 170 who do not know how they became infected, in Aragon 489, in Asturias 20, in the Balearic Islands 182, in Cantabria 60, in Castilla-La Mancha 903, in Castilla y León 452, in the Valencian Community 288, in Extremadura 99, in Galicia 196, in Murcia 68, in Navarra 183, in the Basque Country 93, in La Rioja 58, in Ceuta 30 and in Melilla 6.
In addition, the work, carried out according to the data provided to these organizations by the autonomous communities, highlights that up to 66 percent of the people who have been infected are between 15 and 59 years old, the most frequent area of exposure to the virus being the home environment (25%).
Specifically, with respect to the distribution by sex and age of the Spanish population, cases of COVID-19 are overrepresented in women of working age (20-54 years) and in those over 85 years. The presentation of cases of Covid-19 in children under 15 years of both sexes is relatively low.
11% are healthcare professionals
On the other hand, the report shows that 11 percent of cases are healthcare or social healthcare personnel, this percentage being significantly higher among women than among men (15% vs 5%). In addition, 77 percent of healthcare personnel with COVID-19 reported since May 11 are women.
Likewise, the study indicates that 45 percent of people have presented symptoms and that PCR tests have been performed on 95 percent of detected cases. In fact, in the analysis of the time elapsed between the different events, it is observed that the median time between the onset of symptoms and the first contact with the health system is two days, until diagnosis it is three and until isolation it is one day.
At the same time, an average of four contacts identified per case is estimated, although this last parameter does not have data from Asturias, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid and Catalonia.
Finally, at the national level, the accumulated incidence of Covid-19 has experienced a significant increase of 27 percent from week 26 (June 22-28) to week 27 (June 29-July 5) and of 61 percent from this to week 28 (July 6-12). The increase is observed in all age groups (with the exception of those under 15 years and those over 80 years in the previous two), and is relatively greater in the last two weeks and among those under 50 years.
By autonomous communities, a greater accumulated rate ratio is observed in the Canary Islands, Catalonia, Valencian Community, Extremadura and Galicia, between weeks 27 and 26, and in Andalusia, Aragon, Catalonia, Valencian Community, Extremadura, Murcia, Navarra, Basque Country, and La Rioja between weeks 28 and 27.
However, the daily evolution of cases and hospitalizations of Covid-19 shows a downward trend until June 14-15. Since mid-June, an increase in the number of cases has been observed, while hospitalizations, ICU admissions and deaths maintain a tendency towards stability.
