Orlando Martel Suárez has written to La Voz to denounce that bananas are sold at a lower price in supermarkets on the peninsula than in the same large stores in the Archipelago. "Our star product is a luxury in the Canary Islands and a gift on the peninsula," he criticized.

"I had the idea that we get less fresh and more expensive fruit from the peninsula due to its distance and transportation. But I find our banana in several peninsular stores, with a wonderful presentation, and with a price 25 percent lower than in Lanzarote," says this reader, who does not understand how this situation can occur.

"Could it be that we have become accustomed to increasing a percentage to everything without looking at the product? Could it be that they are fools on the peninsula and lose money? Could it be that they are given taxes and transportation for free?", he asks himself.

This reader assures that he bought these bananas on the peninsula in case "there was a trick", but he found a product that tasted "very good" and that bore the label of the Canary Islands.
