The predoctoral researcher of the CSIC and resident of Lanzarote, Alberto Ucero, has denounced the existence of a "large landfill" in Muñique, where he also states that there are trucks that go "with shovels" and "take the gravel they want" for "construction". "This cannot continue to be allowed," he says.
In a video, Ucero shows the "bites" in the gravel of Muñique, blaming it on "businessmen with a short-sighted mentality who are destroying the island", as well as an "impressive landfill", where you can see rubble, pruning remains, boxes, plastic bottles and even a refrigerator and a hammock.
"Anyone who has a little sensitivity and feeling for this island or for the ecosystems, their soul must be broken", says Alberto Ucero in the recording, in which he shows his "impotence". "Politicians know that this is how it is, that people come here to dump rubble, but for them that is not important, because no one comes here for a walk unless you have lost something," he adds.
"It's shameful," continues Ucero, who laments that "an island that is unique, because Lanzarote has managed to differentiate itself as an island in the middle of the Atlantic for its beauty, its exclusivity and its magic", is becoming "a landfill" because of "a group of selfish people", "while politicians look the other way".
