The National Police, in coordination with the Central Brigade of Narcotics (Udyco) and under the direction of the Central Court of Instruction number 3 of the National Court, has executed one of the largest operations against drug trafficking carried out in the Canary Islands in recent years. Called Operation Black Shadow, the intervention has culminated in at least forty people arrested, accused of belonging to a criminal organization, drug trafficking and money laundering. The operation, still in progress, has been carried out simultaneously in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, and it is not ruled out that the number of arrests will increase in the coming days.

In Lanzarote, several searches have been carried out, including one in the Los Pitufos neighborhood of Arrecife, as well as in other areas such as Altavista. The actions have been carried out with a large police deployment, with agents transferred from Madrid, and have allowed the seizure of drugs, cash, electronic devices and abundant documentation. The dismantled organization operated with a very hierarchical structure, from the leaders to the dealers, and applied strict protocols to avoid being discovered by the security forces.

The case remains under summary secrecy and details about the exact amount of drugs or money seized have not been released. This operation occurs just half a year after another network dedicated to trafficking cocaine and heroin between the eastern islands, and with links to a band of Nigerian origin, was dismantled with nine arrests.
