A reader of La Voz has denounced the scarcity of taxis in Lanzarote and "especially in the capital, Arrecife." The citizen criticizes that every time she goes to catch a taxi, "the minimum waiting time is two hours, not counting special dates such as Christmas or Carnival."

"Three days ago, I picked up a desperate lady over 70 years old at the capital's hospital because she had a bad knee and I had to drive her home because there were no taxis available at the stop that could take her at 2:00 p.m. She had been trying for more than two and a half hours," the reader denounces.

"Lanzarote has become a media hypocrisy in terms of transportation. We advocate all the time for responsible driving, an endless number of DGT commercials that are tremendously aggressive due to the real impact we have on our society from deaths with high blood alcohol levels, especially among young people, but getting home at night if you don't want to take the car after going out is practically impossible," the neighbor criticizes.

The complainant points out that a week ago she was "desperate" when trying to catch a taxi at 11:30 p.m. in Arrecife. "If I'm going to have a drink with friends, I decide never to take the car. That's what they've instilled in me through telecommunications. Well, the result of paying attention to this advertising is that I have to be three hours in the rain, freezing cold and alone in the city. I called the different security forces, Civil Guard and National Police, and none of them were able to assist me. And their response was that this task was not their responsibility. Finally, I got home at 3:30 a.m. because my brother came to pick me up when he got off work," she says.

Finally, the resident of Lanzarote points out that the Local Police has indicated that "there are already many complaints filed about this issue" and addresses the competent authorities to ask them "who has to act accordingly."

"We want to sell an island in favor of values, nature, sustainability... in favor of a lot of concepts that look very nice at FITUR, but apparently no one cares about this problem," concludes the complainant.
