The debut of Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote in the Guerreras Iberdrola League began with an emotional minute of silence in memory of Juan Ramón de León Tejera, former president of the club who recently passed away. Immediately afterwards, the ball started rolling and the match between the batatero team and Mecalia Atlético Guardés offered intensity and alternatives from the first moment.
Guardés struck first with a quick counterattack, although Brenda's immediate response set the tone for a Zonzamas that did not back down. The local defense in six meters and the interventions of Valentina Menucci under the sticks supported the Lanzarote team, who even took the lead in the 7:13 minute (4-3) thanks to Gleinys Reyes.
The exchange of goals maintained equality, with Sancha scoring from seven meters and Nahomi Márquez's exclusions as a local handicap. Zonzamas felt the effort and lack of success in the decisive minutes, crashing against the posts and against a very safe Mínguez in the goal. Guardés, more experienced, knew how to slow down the pace and stretch the income to a final 23-28 that does not reflect the equality experienced during three quarters of the match.
Mecalia Atlético Guardés starts its title defense with a victory, while Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote leaves a very competitive image, capable of tutoring the current champion for many minutes.
