Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote could not secure a win on their visit to Costa del Sol Málaga, who triumphed 26-15 in the postponed match of matchday 9 of the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola, played at the José Luis Pérez Canca Pavilion. The "batateras" showed a competitive image for many minutes, especially in the first half, but ultimately succumbed to the greater depth and effectiveness of the Málaga team in the second half.
The match began with Zonzamas well-established on the court, intense in defense and capable of keeping pace with the home team. After an even start, Costa del Sol managed to tie the score at three goals in the 6th minute, leading to a phase where the Málaga team began to take the initiative with quick transitions, although without managing to pull ahead on the scoreboard. The home goalkeeper Alice Fernandes was key in this stretch, holding her team up with several meritorious saves that halted Zonzamas' offensive options.
A good run by Costa del Sol put the score at 10-7 in the 16th minute, prompting Juan Rivera to call a timeout to reorganize her players. Zonzamas' reaction was immediate, and they managed to get back into the game, bringing the score to 10-9, but the home team gave no quarter and closed the first half with a 4-0 run, capped by a counter-attack from Sole López, leaving the score at 14-9 at halftime
After the restart, Zonzamas came out with good feelings and reduced the deficit with a goal from Irene Botella (14-11, min. 3:30), but the match entered a phase of disarray that benefited Costa del Sol Málaga. The home team picked up the pace, punishing the turnovers and shooting errors of the Lanzarote team, which hit the posts on several occasions
The score extended to 18-12 midway through the second half and, as the minutes passed, Costa del Sol managed to slow down the game, while Zonzamas lost freshness and offensive clarity. In the final stretch, turnovers multiplied and the home team's lead grew to 25-16 in the 27th minute, with the match finally closing at a definitive 26-15.
El Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote leaves Málaga without a prize, aware that they will have to keep working to turn good moments of play into results in a second half of the season in which every point will be decisive. And with hardly any margin for recovery, the schedule once again demands a lot from the Lanzarote team, which will travel to Galicia this Saturday to face Mecalia Atlético Guardés, the current second-placed team in the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola, in a new challenge of maximum difficulty.
