The counselor of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Families, Candelaria Delgado, and the president of the insular Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort García, formalized this Tuesday the agreement that will allow promoting the European Youth Card on the island and therefore expanding the current advantages for those who use the insular Youth Card of Lanzarote.
The European Youth Card of the Canary Islands currently has 546 affiliated companies to the program, to which are added more than twenty collaboration agreements in force with entities of special strategic relevance, which provide specific benefits and differential opportunities with entities.
Agreements with transport operators such as Binter, Iberia, Naviera Armas, Nortour, Líneas Romero and Canaryfly; Sports Clubs: CB Remudas, CV Haris and CB Gran Canaria; Social Entities: Cruz Roja, Fundación Adsis, Funcasor, EAPN Canarias, A ti, mujer and Asociación Hestia. And other organizations such as: Europe Direct Canarias, Universidad Fernando Pessoa, SODEPAL (Sociedad de Promoción Económica de La Palma), La Palma Live Events, Casco histórico Santa Cruz de La Palma, Ecoactiva Canarias, DO Wedding Plans and Macaronesia Events.
Candelaria Delgado considered that "the signing of this agreement is a big step to improve the advantages that those who already have the insular card on the island currently enjoy". "This agreement will allow that, after giving their consent for data transfer, many more boys and girls from the island will be able to enjoy the multiple advantages of the youth card throughout Europe, which is managed through the Ideo Foundation, such as active leisure, festivals, concerts and, above all, now that summer is approaching, the travel discounts that they can obtain through the agreements established with different transport companies, which also include Líneas Romero".
For her part, the youth counselor of the Cabildo, Aroa Revelo, thanked the work of "the General Directorate of Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands for offering the possibility for young people from Lanzarote and La Graciosa to have the same advantages as other young people from the islands, with key discounts on transport, culture, training and leisure throughout Europe, fostering more connected, active youth with fewer barriers due to double and triple insularity".
Candelaria Delgado also highlighted after the signing "the commitment made since the beginning of the legislature to increase the benefits offered by the card in the Canary Islands". "One only needs to check the immense growth in the number of young people who have decided to apply for it in these last three years and who in Lanzarote have gone from 720 to more than 4,000".
In all of the Canary Islands, there are already 74,037 registered users, of whom 60% are women. Compared to July 2023, the increase has been 240%, as in July 2023 there were 21,795 young people.
With the aim of expanding benefits to all Canary Islands youth and unifying existing programs in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, the Directorate General for Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands initiated a signing of agreements with both island councils that will allow this program to be strengthened on all islands.
