The match in Fuerteventura started with a minute of silence, a lot of wind and the haze dominating the Majorero sky. Yaiza was wearing the unusual blue and white kit as the locals use the traditional green and black in the Melín Díaz de Tuineje. In addition, Gran Tarajal was premiering a coach, Miguel Santana, and the Yaiza coach, Carlos Ramírez, was arriving at the battle to get out of the relegation zone with the team doubled by casualties and with three youth players on the bench.
Both teams abused long balls in the first minutes of the match until the 13th minute, when the first opportunity arrived for the Majoreros in a header from Pato that went to the left of the goal of Álex Medina after touching the post. A minute later, a cross-shot from the corner was complicated by the wind and the Yaiza goalkeeper was forced to intervene to throw out a ball that was poisoning itself at times. In the corner, Gran Tarajal headed again near the Yaiza's small area but the ball went to the right of the goal. Those were the best minutes for the locals.
Yaiza tried to wake up from the local dominance and in the 26th minute a shot from the edge of the area brought danger for the first time to the Gran Tarajal goal. The locals returned the danger with a double chance that Álex Medina managed to solve to continue maintaining the goalless draw.
A couple of bad passes near the break put the Yaiza defense in the obligation to cut a local counterattack that ended in a yellow card. In the 46th minute, a header from the penalty spot in a dive from Conceiçao after a pass from Chengue ended up in the hands of the visiting goalkeeper again. There was no time for more. A lot of equality and the few options to move the score fell on the local side.
In the second half the local dominance was not going to be repeated. Yaiza recovered and tried to move forward but their dominance did not translate into goalscoring opportunities. The wind continued to impose its own rules but football was going to remind us, for the benefit of Majorero who premiered a coach a few days ago, one of those almost unanswerable mantras, “new coach, sure victory”.
Half an hour into the game, a shot from Yunes became the first option for Yaiza. In the 72nd minute, a bad defensive clearance ended in a cross from Antonio from the left that Celes controlled with his chest near the small area and mercilessly shot Álex Medina. Yaiza threw away 75 minutes of work in a badly defended second play. After the goal, Yaiza tried without success. The score would not move any more.
For the Yaiza coach, Carlos Ramírez, “we knew it was a complicated match due to the casualties, in addition, the wind was added to make an uncomfortable match for both teams. The team fought it, I think they were better in the first half. We were good in the second half but it was a match that I knew that the team that failed, that had the minimum error, if the other team managed to put it in it would be almost definitive. A failure of our marking was like that and almost sentenced the match. The match was a wanting and not being able to, we lacked goalscoring opportunities but you have to take into account the numerous casualties we had, then you looked at the bench and you saw three 16-year-old youth players, the truth is that it is not an excuse but I think that today we have not played a match to take the three points but at least the draw would have been the fair result. It is true that Álex took out some balls but they took advantage of the opportunity they had and there is nothing more to say”, concludes the verdinegro coach.
With this result, Carlos Ramírez's team returns to the relegation places with 18 points. The same points as their opponent this Sunday, Gran Tarajal, the first team out of danger with the same points as the verdinegros.
Next week Yaiza hosts Santa Úrsula, a team that is eighth with 29 points and will arrive in the south of Lanzarote after winning convincingly (2-0) against the last classified team, Estrella CF.
