Toñín Suárez has won the Yaiza Rallysprint for the second time, the first for his co-driver Jorge Cedrés, with a race that he controlled from last night after the misfortune of Yeray Lemes, who was the first leader of the test passed by water in the first night section.
His only rival was the other Porsche team, that of Oliver Rodríguez-David Rivero, with whom they shared the scratches of the six sections contested. A triumph that was not as forceful as in 2021, where he won in all the passes. The current champions of Lanzarote took advantage of the cushion of seconds obtained on the night of Yaiza, to take advantage of them on today's day, improving their times after mounting harder tires in the last sections.
For his part, Oliver did what was within his reach, since before the start his possibilities were diminished by the spare part of a damaged shock absorber not arriving in time. Even so, they took several scratches, shortening the differences over their rival until finishing with 7.6 seconds of difference. In addition, with a tie at two in the number of scratches and a third with the same time to the tenth in the last of the six sections.
Alfredo Guerra and Lara Curbelo were in their corresponding position for the Peugeot 208 Rally4, despite the inexperience with this mount of Sport&You Canarias. A third place on the podium to which they climbed with all merit and which they took over from Friday night.
Already in fourth place was Jonay Fragiel-Idaira Aguiar with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII, authors of a good rallysprint for this type of mount still very competitive in Lanzarote. A fourth place that was also occupied until his abandonment in TC4 by the Honda Civic of Alexander Barros-Brenda Pérez.al.
Jonás Rodríguez-Diego Cabrera also shone with the Renault Clio Cup and took an excellent fifth place overall, ahead of Antonio Afonso-Luis Hernández (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo) and Suso Lemes-Francisco Rosales (Ford Fiesta R2), sixth and seventh respectively.
Only 26 of the 35 vehicles that took the start managed to enter the final general classification. Among the early retirees, it is also necessary to point out that of Rayco Rodríguez in TC3 this Saturday, which will affect his good situation in the Canary Islands and Las Palmas Championship.
In this last event, the Gran Canarian Jesé Ramos-Alejandro Falcón con the Clio Rally5 add more points to fight for the provincial title of the specialty, since they qualified eighth and first in their class, taking a good income of points.
The test ended as is traditional in the Plaza del Carmen in Playa Blanca, where the CD. Evesport and the Yaiza City Council put the finishing touch with the awards ceremony, where the federative and municipal representatives were, supporting the organizers until the last act. The Minister of Sports of the Island Council, Juan Monzón, as well as the presidents José Angel Batista (FCA) and Miguel Angel Domínguez (FALP) also followed up throughout the rallysprint.
