CD Unión Sur Yaiza has made the difficult decision to dispense with the services of coach Maxi Barrera, after a meeting held on Tuesday morning between the club's president, Bernardo Povedano, and the Gran Canaria coach himself. This measure comes after a series of negative results, with last weekend's defeat at the CD Móstoles field being the trigger that has set off the alarms in the entity.

The situation of the Second Federation team has become difficult, with 14 consecutive games without a win, which has placed the Yaiza team six points from salvation. The loss of points in recent days has considerably influenced and has made the club look for solutions to try to turn the situation around.

The president of CD Unión Sur Yaiza, Bernardo Povedano, was visibly affected when announcing Barrera's dismissal, stressing that "it has not been an easy decision", but that it has been taken with the aim of achieving an immediate reaction from the squad. Povedano also pointed out that, after the closing of the transfer market, the club is limited to make movements in the squad, which has made the arrival of a change in the coaching staff even more necessary.

“We have been forced to take this step to try to get the squad to react, once the transfer market has already concluded and we cannot move more pieces," Povedano said regretfully. Despite the decision, the president did not fail to recognize the work and dedication of Maxi Barrera, who was the architect of the team's promotion to the Second Federation, something historic for the club. "The work that Maxi Barrera has done with us has been very good, as well as his behavior, which has always been exemplary with the whole club, but sometimes these things happen in football," he added.

In addition, the president emphasized that Barrera "will always remain in history as the coach who promoted us to the Second Federation, something that had never happened in an entity as small and modest as ours." Povedano was confident that Maxi Barrera will continue as a fan of the club as "one more verdillo", noting that he will always have the door open at CD Unión Sur Yaiza.

From now on, Dennis Morales will take over the reins of the first team on an interim basis, while the club works on hiring a new coach to take over the technical direction as soon as possible.

The decision taken by CD Unión Sur Yaiza reflects the urgency to reverse the team's sporting situation in the Second Federation. Despite the sadness caused by the departure of Maxi Barrera, the club remains confident that a change of course will be key to avoid relegation. The team, which is currently six points from salvation, is preparing to face the next few games with the hope of achieving the results that will allow them to stay in the category.
