UD Lanzarote secured an important victory this Sunday, allowing them to continue fighting for a place in the promotion playoffs at the end of the season. The Rojillos had a comfortable match against Unión Viera, opening the scoring in the first half with a goal from defender Javi Mayor, and extending their lead in the second half with two goals from Iván Hujo and one from Ale Fuentes.
UD Lanzarote dominated from the start, creating the first chance with a free kick taken by Ale Fuentes that went just wide. Then came chances for Adrián Machín and Ale Fuentes, before the locals took the lead in the 32nd minute. Javi Mayor finished with his left foot after a loose ball inside the area.
UD Lanzarote dominated the second half from start to finish, facing an opponent that gradually lost heart as the minutes passed. A cross from Oli on the left wing couldn't be finished by Ayoze at the near post, and Iván Hujo only had to push it into the net unmarked.
The third goal for UD Lanzarote came in the 76th minute, with Ale Fuentes heading in a cross from the right wing. And the locals closed the scoring in the 82nd minute, with Iván Hujo taking advantage of an assist from Ayoze to finish at will.
The victory allows UD Lanzarote to stay two points away from the promotion playoff spots, with Mensajero currently occupying fifth position. The Rojillos visit UD San Fernando next week, a team that occupies the second position.
