Decaffeinated San Ginés Football Tournament that was experienced on Friday night, not because of the quality of the teams, but because of the changes that the tournament suffered in recent days. Finally, it remained in a triangular with the participation of UD Lanzarote, Unión Sur Yaiza and CD El Cotillo, and the absence of Estrella CF. Few fans found out about the change of day and format and barely a hundred spectators approached the stands of the Lanzarote Sports City.
In purely sporting terms, UD Lanzarote revalidated the title of champion in the forty-sixth edition of the San Ginés Football Tournament. The rojillos won by the minimum against CD El Cotillo and drew one goal against Unión Sur Yaiza. These results were enough to win the title of champion of one of the dean tournaments of the preseason in the Canary Islands.
Unión Sur Yaiza 1 – CD El Cotillo 1
The tournament began with the duel between Unión Sur Yaiza and CD El Cotillo. The Majoreros put strong pressure on Yaiza's ball output, stifling the ball circulation and putting the players trained by Carlos Ramírez in trouble. CD El Cotillo had the first chance with a free kick from the side executed by Juanmi and Iván headed it over the crossbar.
Unión Sur Yaiza took the lead in the 31st minute. Rubén Rodríguez executed a corner kick and Aridane finished at the goal mouth. CD El Cotillo's equalizer would come in an innocent play by the Yaiza defense and goalkeeper. Goalkeeper Doramas caught a ball inside the area that was passed back by a defender. The Majoreros quickly took the indirect free kick, Doramas rectifying his mistake with a good save at Pedrito's feet. And in the subsequent corner kick, Juanmi put the ball very close, with a defender sneaking the ball into his own goal.
With the score tied at one goal, the match came to an end. In the subsequent penalty shootout, Yaiza was the most successful, winning 9-8, in a round in which ten shots per team were needed.
