Unión Deportiva Lanzarote is at the center of international controversy for training the Colombian soccer player from Boca Junior Sebastián Villa, convicted of gender violence in Argentina

Sebastián Villa is an elite soccer player who belongs to one of the largest reference clubs in Latin America. The striker faces a 25-month prison sentence after being found guilty of mistreating his ex-partner. However, he will not have to go to prison because it is a sentence of less than three years, according to Argentine law.

According to according to El País, the judge who tried Villa's case considered it proven that the Colombian soccer player assaulted his then partner, punched her, grabbed her arm, threw her to the ground and kicked her. In addition, he threatened to hurt her family. After that, the victim shared a video on social networks telling what happened.

Although he continues in the ranks of Boca Junior, the player is separated from the club and took advantage of his visit to Lanzarote to train with the rojillos. During his stay on the island, he thanked the Argentine coach Leonel Gancedo and the physical trainer Rodrigo Zaleski on social networks for "the space" and "the quality of the people".

While Villa trains in Lanzarote, Boca Junior is preparing for the round of 16 match of the Copa Libertadores that will be played this Wednesday, August 9 at La Bombonera.
