UD Lanzarote received the visit of CD Mensajero on Sunday midday, in a match in which the rojillo team was obliged to break the streak of four consecutive defeats. The Lanzarote team was superior to its rival in many minutes of the match, although it was not successful in the final meters. Benítez put Mensajero ahead in a defensive mismatch and Raúl achieved the tie with a free kick.
The match started with a lot of pace and it didn't take long for the local team to generate their first chances. A shot by Pipo from the edge of the area was repelled by goalkeeper Padilla and in the continuation of the play, Fabricio's shot was cleared by a defender under the posts.
CD Mensajero would take the lead in the 23rd minute. Vianney was in charge of executing a corner kick and Benítez, unmarked, headed into the back of the net. The goal was a bucket of cold water for the rojillos, taking several minutes to recover from it. The first half ended with a shot by Pipo to the side of the net.
UD Lanzarote had more drive in the second half, generating a lot of danger with the incursions of Julyan, Yeray Cruz and Keita down the wings. In the 51st minute, a cross from the right by Keita was headed by Gonzalo Di Renzo and Padilla's hand prevented the equalizing goal.
The tie would come close to half an hour into the second half and in a set-piece action. Raúl executed a free kick from the edge of the area, the powerful shot surpassed the barrier and lodged in the back of the net of CD Mensajero's goal.
Despite the tie, UD Lanzarote's push did not continue and the rival wanted to have more of the ball in their possession. The match ended with a local team overturned on the rival's area, but being unable to culminate the attacking plays with shots between the three posts.
A one-goal draw for UD Lanzarote against CD Mensajero, a point that serves to break the dynamic of four consecutive defeats and continue in seventh place in the standings. The rojillos visit Unión Puerto next week at the Municipal de Los Pozos.
