Everything is ready to start the XXXI edition of the Puerto Calero Marlin Cup, which this year will be held under the tag and release modality, highlighting the conservation of marine species. In this edition, the protagonists will be exclusively the marlin, these being the only scoring species in the competition.
The event will begin on Thursday, October 3, with the confirmation of registrations and the skippers' meeting, which will take place in the Plaza de Las Carpas, starting at 7:00 p.m. A wide participation is expected, with more than 50 boats, mostly from the islands of Lanzarote, La Graciosa, Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Gran Canaria. In addition, the tournament will be attended by crews who have confirmed their attendance from the Iberian Peninsula, which reinforces the international nature of this competition.
The fishing days will be held on Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5. The grand departure of the boats is scheduled for 9:00 a.m., inviting residents and tourists to come to Puerto Calero to enjoy the spectacular display of boats.
The XXXI Puerto Calero Marlin Cup is a championship with great prestige, since the winning team will qualify directly for the World Fishing Championship in Costa Rica. This tournament is the only one in Spain that offers this opportunity, which makes it an essential event for lovers of sport fishing. The tournament will culminate on Saturday, October 5 with the awards ceremony for the winning teams.
To close with a flourish, starting at 11:00 p.m., the band Inerxia will offer a concert open to the public in Puerto Calero, to which all those who wish to enjoy a night of music and celebration are invited. The tournament is organized by Calero Marinas, in collaboration with the Wahoo Azul Puerto Calero Fishing Club, and has the support of entities such as Islas Canarias, Turismo Lanzarote, Ayuntamiento de Yaiza (through its Sports area), as well as the sponsors Cicar, Aon, Grupo Santander, Ereza, Grupo Tiagua and Maderas Marcial González.
