The Puerto Calero High Seas Fishing Tournament, the only tournament in Spain that qualifies for the Costa Rica World Cup, will celebrate its twenty-seventh edition from September 12 to 14.
Organized by the Wahoo Azul Fishing Club, which for the last five years has taken over from Calero Marinas, it is one of the longest-running events on the fishing tournament calendar in the Canary Islands, second only to the Puerto Rico events with 33 editions and Pasito Blanco with 30 editions.
The Puerto Calero Fishing Competition has been held since 1991 and has a large participation from the Canary Islands fleet, which marks this weekend on the calendar as an unmissable event for the enjoyment of this great hobby. The tournament has gone from having 15 boats in its first edition, of which ten were from Gran Canaria and five boats from the Lanzarote fleet, to 65 boats representing almost all the islands that practice high seas fishing, including the largest recreational fishing boat in Europe.
From Calero Marinas-Puerto Calero, they emphasize that the enclave is another of the attractions of this competition, given that it is located "in a strategic place, which allows many options when choosing a course for the fishermen." In addition, it points out that it offers "first-class facilities that welcome and protect these boats during the fishing days and a unique environment where you can rest after a long day of fishing with all the services you may need."
Important prizes and closing party with a beach as the setting
In addition, for this year, the Wahoo Azul Fishing Club has announced two important prizes, which are the Cicar special prize with a car for the first boat to report three white marlins and the Mapfre Grand Prize, which will award a check for 20,000 euros to the boat that can justify the tagging of two blue marlins between the two days of the tournament, in addition to other surprises.
An added incentive for lovers of high seas fishing is that they will also enjoy an impressive closing party after the awards ceremony on September 14, organized by DO Eventos with a large beach as the setting.
