The nineteenth edition of the La Candelaria 2016 International Basketball Tournament began on Thursday, with the participation of the best teams from the Canary Islands in the cadet category and completing the list with the presence of several national and international teams. A cadet category basketball tournament organized by the Magec Tías Sports Club that has experienced a frantic opening day. A first day that has been marked by equality.
On Thursday morning, the La Candelaria 2016 International Basketball Tournament was launched with the participation of all the teams, with the exception of the Germans from Brader Berlin Aachen. The Germans will play their first matches on Friday, being the last to land on the island of Lanzarote. A first inaugural day in which equality has been evident, in which only the girls from Corazonistas de Madrid have been able to win their two matches. Multiple ties in victories and defeats in the classifications of all the groups.
In group A of the men's category, Magec Tías and CBA lead the classification with a victory added on the opening day, followed by Luther King and the German team. In group B, the tie for one victory is marked by Canarias, Canterbury and Amuley, while Santa Cruz de La Palma has not yet opened its victory box. In group C, the leaders are Telde Basket Tara, Aristos de Madrid and Nuryana. A group in which CB Los Toscones from Fuerteventura closes the classification.
Corazonistas de Madrid leads the classification of group A of the women's category, being the only team that has won the two matches played. Magec Tías, Canterbury and Nuryana, add a victory in this group and Basket Pintadera "B" has not opened its victory box. Group B is headed by La Salle and Basket Pintadera "A", after adding a victory, followed by Luther King and CB Amuley.
This Friday the XIX La Candelaria 2016 International Basketball Tournament will continue, a tournament that is possible thanks to the support of the Tías City Council, Puerto del Carmen, the Sports area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Canary Basketball Federation, Panificadora San Antonio, Seguros GES, Taberna de Nino and Lidl. The first matches of the morning will begin at 09:10 hours in the facilities of the Tías Municipal Pavilion, IES Tías Pavilion and on the outdoor court of the pavilion. A marathon day of cadet basketball is expected for this Friday and in which the positions in each of the groups will begin to be defined.
