The mayor of Villa de Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, gave this Tuesday the "starting signal" to what will be the VI Villa de Teguise Rally next Friday and Saturday, which he described as very necessary for the sport of the island of Lanzarote and especially for motorsport, because the demand is demonstrating that another test of this type was demanded: "The drivers do not have a field or a facility to practice their sport, only the roads or highways where a rally like the one in Teguise can be done. And that is what we can offer from our municipality and it will be like that for many editions in the coming years. If we were able to carry it out last year after the first year of the pandemic, as the first important event and motorsport event in Lanzarote, we are sure that we can do much better and guarantee the future of the Villa de Teguise Rally".
And there is reason for satisfaction one more year, because there will be about 40 teams that make up the list of participants for this sixth edition presented this noon at the Spínola Palace in Villa de Teguise. The event organized by CD. Manguia Motor Sport will be held this weekend, April 1 and 2, with verifications on Friday evening and timed sections on Saturday.
In addition to the mayor of Teguise, the top promoter of the event, was the president of the Federation of Las Palmas, Miguel Angel Domínguez, who highly valued the work done so that the drivers of Lanzarote fully support the Teguise Rally. On behalf of the City Council, its Councilor for Sports, Gerardo Rodríguez, also spoke, who highlighted and appreciated the important aid received from the rally sponsors such as Orvecame, CICAR, Quesería El Faro and the BP Championship of Las Palmas, among other collaborators plus the Island Council itself as part of this Lanzarote Championship to which it belongs and the members of the organization.
The event was conducted by Vicente Travieso, who on behalf of Club Manguia apologized for the presence of its president for personal reasons, making a call for collaboration from fans and the public in safety and environmental care.
The excitement in the development of the test is assured with the good group of favorites for the podium places. Among the list of 39 registered teams, number 1 will be carried in his usual Mitsubishi Lancer Evo by the always outstanding on his island, Yeray Lemes, with his usual Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX, with Rogelio Peñate as co-driver.
The fight between the Porsche 911 GT3 of the current champion Toñín Suárez-Jorge Cedrés, with the champion of Las Palmas 2021, Julio Martínez with Pedro Viera as co-driver, will be very lively. The applauded return of Oliver Rodríguez from Lanzarote joins the party with another Porsche 911 GT3 (ex-Iván Armas), co-piloted by David Rivero from Gran Canaria, who will find themselves in their best terrain in the fast sections of Teguise.
The VW Polo N5 of Juan Carlos de la Cruz-Aitor Cambeiro will be another of the candidates, along with the always fast Evos of Aníbal Machín-Francisco Rosales, Suso Lemes-Isabel Pérez and Alejandro Rodríguez-Miguel Angel Rodríguez, the latter team with many possibilities of becoming leader of the BP Championship in the provincial rallys, after their good result in the past Villa de Santa Brígida.
In the FALP Drivers Promotion Trophy we find three aspirants to win the plot dedicated to the youngest, Javier Cañada, Joday Betancort and Adián Pérez.
The test will once again be based at the Teguise Agroindustrial Complex, where all the rally activities will take place except for the timed sections, which will once again have a route of six specials in 2+2+2 format (three different), with 64.8 km against the clock of the total itinerary of 229 km: Candelaria-San Bartolomé (7.16 km), Costa Teguise-Guatiza (12.83 km) and El Mojón-Los Valles-Haría (12.41 km - after delaying the start 1.5 km for safety), are in this order the three specials to be disputed in double consecutive pass.
On Friday afternoon-night from 5:00 p.m. will be the preliminary events of the rally, such as the verification of the vehicles and the safety meeting with the teams and race management. On Saturday the route starts at 9 in the morning, to finish from 6:25 p.m. in the afternoon and the subsequent awards ceremony. Club Manguia also has the help and collaboration of the Las Palmas Automobile Federation - FALP.
We remind you that in the last edition it was finally won by the team formed by Toñín Suárez-Gabriel Espino (Porsche 911-997 GT3), in what was the second consecutive victory in Teguise of the current champion from Lanzarote.
