The municipality of Tías hosted on the afternoon of this past Sunday, March 3, the handball match between the national teams of Spain and North Macedonia in the Municipal Pavilion, which serves as a classification for the 2024 European Championship.

The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, on behalf of the corporation he chairs, wishes to congratulate the Spanish Handball Federation and the Canary Islands Handball Federation, as well as the great family of Puerto del Carmen handball, for the celebration of the event, "which was exciting both from a sporting point of view, due to the victory of our warriors, and for the implicit recognitions." Congratulations also to the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Lanzarote for their involvement.

We make special mention of the legend of Lanzarote handball, Águeda Batista Cedrés, whom we were able to greet and whom we also congratulate for an impeccable sporting career that encourages the young players of the island. Águeda Batista obtained at the end of the 20th century a total of 5 League Division of Honor titles, 5 Cups and 42 times international with the Spanish national team where she managed to score 25 goals. In addition, she was a key player in the promotion to the Division of Honor with Vifirehaty and Tahíche, both teams from the island of Lanzarote.

We also share the recognition to all the athletes, to Julia Aparicio Hernández, who wore the Spanish national team jersey on 23 occasions, and to Marta Mangué, the top scorer in the history of Spanish handball.
