The Insular Federation of Latin Sail Barquillos of Lanzarote has celebrated with an urgent character an Extraordinary General Assembly in which the beginning of the season of the five-meter modality of the Latin sail barquillos was debated. The improvement works that are carried out in the facilities of the Insular Center of Nautical Sports, will force to delay the beginning of the season and allow the sailors to enjoy greater comfort when practicing this vernacular sport.
The assembly members present at the facilities of the Insular Federation of Latin Sail Barquillos of Lanzarote, agreed, unanimously, to delay the beginning of the season of the five-meter modality and for which a total of 19 boats have completed the registration. Thus, it maintains the regatta scheduled for next Sunday, August 20, starting at 11:00 am, and that will be valid for the San Ginés Trophy.
The official start of the season is delayed until September 24, scheduling a total of five days and in which two regattas will be held per day, completing a total of ten races. Most of the season will take place during the month of October, specifically on the weekends of October 01, 08, 22 and 29, and that will give way to the celebration of the Canary Islands Championship of Latin Sail Barquillos on the island of La Graciosa.
The president of the Insular Federation of Latin Sail Barquillos of Lanzarote, Pedro Robayna, explains that "the effort that all the crews have made has been titanic and we can only thank all the crew members and collaborators of each boat." The top manager assures that "we do not have more dates given the proximity of the Canary Islands Championship" and hopes that "the 5-meter barquillos championship will be for the enjoyment of the crews and fans".
The improvement works that are carried out in the Insular Center of Nautical Sports, in Marina Colón, does not allow the barquillos to stay in the facilities and the clubs would have to remove the boats at the end of each of the regattas. In addition, the previous preparation of the barquillos would be very uncomfortable for all the sailors, so next Sunday they will make a great effort to maintain the San Ginés Trophy regatta.
