On August 25, Alfredo González González and Cristian Barreto Sánchez, sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, were proclaimed Snipe world champions in Cascais, Portugal. At the proposal of the Board of Directors, the Extraordinary General Assembly was held in which the members had to ratify the appointment of both sailors as members of merit of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. Alfredo and Cristian have 10 world championships in their sports career.

President Julio Romero was in charge of opening the event by proposing the vote that was directed by the secretary Antonio López Socas, after informing the members of the sports history of both athletes. The proposal was unanimously approved.

Subsequently, they signed the RCNA's book of honor and received the diplomas accrediting their new status as members of merit from the president and secretary. Directors Sonia Fajardo and Estanislao Bethencourt presented them with the RCNA gold badges.

After the official act, the honorees shared the night with family, directors, friends, fans and posing for the photographs that were requested of them. Among those present, the presence of the Catalan athlete Silvia Mas (470 world champion) and the Galician Nico Rodríguez (bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games in the same class) was emotional. Currently, both sailors are carrying out their pre-Olympic preparation in Playa Blanca for 2024, and Alfredo González is their coach.

The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife offered the attendees a cocktail dinner, serving a cake with the image of the Snipe world champions for dessert.
