The municipality of Yaiza is warming up its engines to host the third edition of its RallySprint this weekend, a scoring event for the Canary Islands Championship, the Las Palmas Provincial Championship and the Lanzarote Championship, for which a total of 36 cars have registered, as confirmed by representatives of the organization on the morning of Wednesday, September 20, during the presentation held at Casa Benito Pérez Armas.
The event was attended by the president of CD Evesport, José Víctor Rodríguez, the president of the Las Palmas Automobile Federation, Miguel Ángel Domínguez, the Minister of Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón, and the Councilor for Sports of Yaiza, Ángel Lago, all of whom agreed on the consolidation of the event on the calendar with the celebration of this third edition, in which Lanzarote drivers Toñín Suárez, Yeray Lemes and Oliver Rodríguez are the favorites.
The event will once again take place over two days, one at night on Friday the 22nd from 9:00 p.m. and the other on Saturday morning the 23rd from 9:30 a.m., between the towns of Las Breñas and Las Casitas, with a total of 6 sections also passing through Maciot and Femés. José Víctor Rodríguez highlighted that this year "we are using the night section format again, which is an important attraction for the event and is also popular with both drivers and fans." He also wanted to explain that this year they have introduced the figure of the camel on the poster announcing the event as a nod to the municipality and took the opportunity to conclude his speech by asking fans for "respect for the environment", urging them to place themselves in safe areas to enjoy the rally.
For his part, the president of the federation, Miguel Ángel Domínguez, wanted to thank the Yaiza City Council and the Cabildo de Lanzarote for their support, as well as the private companies that collaborate with the event, and all the drivers who have decided to participate, wishing them "good luck." Domínguez assured that the world of motorsport "is a driver of the economy" and that he hopes for a massive influx of public, whom he also asked for "maximum respect so that we have a very safe event."
Juan Monzón, Minister of Sports of the Cabildo, highlighted that this is "an important event to be valued" and that "the area that I represent will always lend a hand, in this case to the Yaiza City Council, but to the world of sports and motorsport in general on the island of Lanzarote."
Finally, Ángel Lago, Councilor for Sports of Yaiza, closed the event by emphasizing that "we are in luck in Yaiza because motorsport is consolidating" and wanted to highlight that several towns will be able to benefit from both fans and participants and family members "who will consume in our municipality throughout the weekend", as is the case of Las Breñas and Femés, through which the routes will run, but also Uga, which will once again be an assistance park and an area where the popular paella will be made and the vehicles will spend the night, as well as Playa Blanca, where the vehicle verification will take place on Friday afternoon and the awards ceremony on Saturday. Lago concluded by wishing all participants good luck and predicting a "great show."
Security meeting
Prior to the presentation, the acting mayor of Yaiza, Daniel Medina, chaired the security meeting in which the Councilor for Citizen Security, Beatriz Vázquez, technicians from the Sports Area and representatives of the organizing club, the Local Police, the Civil Guard, the Red Cross and Civil Protection Yaiza, among others, participated.
Medina, on his behalf and on behalf of the mayor's office, apologizes in advance for any inconvenience that the planned road closures may cause to residents of the area and explains that "every year we try to make them as minimal as possible, but it must be understood that an event of this magnitude requires strong security measures. In any case, those affected will be notified in due course and there is a contact telephone number available to users."
In this regard, it should be noted that this year the residents of Las Breñas will be able to access the town from the Hoya roundabout, an access that will only be enabled for residents of the area, and that Playa Blanca will not be affected for either tourists or residents, as the LZ-2 will remain open at all times.
On the other hand, the acting mayor also points out the importance of holding this type of event as a driver of the local economy and the Council's commitment to the sport and tourism combination, since "in addition to the drivers and their teams, there are many family members, friends and motorsport fans who travel to enjoy the show, not to mention the residents and tourists in the area." "However, we ask all of them to respect the instructions of the security personnel at all times and to place themselves in safe areas," concludes Medina.
Road closures and contact telephone number
The road route where the Yaiza Rally Sprint runs, Las Breñas – Maciot – Femés – Las Casitas, will be closed to traffic on Friday, September 22 from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The alternative route for road traffic is the LZ-2 and the organization provides residents with the contact number 620 109 060 to resolve concerns or possible emergencies. In addition, prior to the event, the Yaiza City Council informs residents of the affected areas by letter of the planned road closures, as well as alternative routes for entering and leaving their homes.
