The 28th Tomás Viera Memorial Rallysprint will be held this Saturday, July 8th in Lanzarote. This event, framed within the Lanzarote Island Championship and the Regional Championship of the specialty, will be held in the municipality of Tinajo and on the El Cuchillo section as the main stage. This will be the third scoring event of the Island Championship and the second in the rallysprints modality, of the Canary Islands and the province of Las Palmas.

The organization of CD. Evesport will finally have a list of 26 registered teams, with most of the followers of the Lanzarote championship, but very few from other islands of the rallysprints championship.

The mayor of Tinajo, returns to the race after 11 years of inactivity

One of the novelties is not at the top of the entry list, since with number 17, the veteran driver Jesús Machín Duque, also the mayor of Tinajo, the host municipality of the race, returns "to the charge" after 11 years of inactivity. A group of friends have convinced him, especially Roberto and Samuel, to finally put on his helmet again in the Tomás Viera Rallysprint. He initially planned to race with the "small" Skoda, but a serious breakdown ruled out this option and they finally found him a Renault Megane Coupé, so that he would not miss the opportunity to put on his helmet again.

Machín was also very excited to have his daughter Naroa, the youngest of the family who has just turned 18, as his co-driver. And in the end, this family team has emerged, with great enthusiasm to fulfill the Lanzarote fans again this coming Saturday.

In addition to Machín's return, who obviously will not be fighting as a favorite (that will be when he degreases the Skoda Octavia WRC), the usual contenders for the podium are the drivers with Porsche 911 GT, in this case only Yeray Lemes, co-driven by Sotero Martín Villalba, plus Oliver Rodríguez-David Rivero. On this occasion, the winner of last year, Toñín Suárez, is not attending.

The third could be the Peugeot 208 Rally4 of Aníbal Machín-Borja de León and Roberto Hernández-Cristhofer Rijo. With numbers 1 and 2, the best classified in the Canary Islands Championship start, and these are the drivers from Gran Canaria Jesé Ramos-Alejandro Falcón (Renault Clio Rally5) and the Lanzarote drivers Rayco Rodríguez-Brian Cabrera (Renault Clio Cup).

The program of the rallysprint dedicated to the memory of co-driver Tomás Viera begins with the verification of the cars from 9:00 a.m., the start of the first of the six passes at 11:30 a.m., and then the rest of the six planned stages (three in each direction of the 5.6 km El Cuchillo section), which will add up to 33.6 km timed in total. Around 3:30 p.m., the final trophy presentation is expected to take place. All of this in the town of La Vegueta, as the headquarters of all the activities of the XXVIII Tomás Viera Rallysprint, next to the Yacomar Socio-Cultural Center.

The Tinajo City Council and Deportes-Tinajo, together with the rest of the sponsors of the Lanzarote Championship, such as the Island Council, Orvecame, CICAR, Art, Culture and Tourism Centers and Naviera Armas, are the collaborators with the organization of CD. Evesport. It is worth highlighting the push that this municipality gives to its two motorsport events, since after the RS comes the Tinajo regional Slalom. In good part, thanks to the passion for this sport of its mayor Jesús Machín and the entire Sports team of this city council.
