Sixteen of the athletes will represent Lanzarote next weekend in the U16 and U18 Cross Country Championships of the Canary Islands

The circuit of La Bufona, in Arrecife, was the stage chosen for the celebration of the fourth day of the cross-country modality of the Island Games of Sports Promotion, a competition organized by the Cabildo de Lanzarote through the Island Sports Service. A fourth concentration with which the cross-country season closes, and in which more than 200 runners of all ages have participated.

Saturday's day began with different races and with distances adapted to each of the age groups. The oldest were the first to take the start, giving way to the quarry of athletics in Lanzarote, who waited their turn watching how the rest of the athletes completed the course in the circuit of La Bufona. Significant was the increase of boys and girls who were encouraged to participate in the cross-country modality of the Island Games of Sports Promotion.

At the end of each of the scheduled events, the trophies and medals were awarded. The runners of the sub'8, sub'10 and sub'12 categories received a participation medal. A cross-country modality that this season had the participation of the clubs Adal, Globara, Bayliss Multisport, CD José Carlos Hernández, Triactiv, Lanzatletas, Azarug Tinajo, Trimakina, Jabalina and Nazaret.

Then the trophies were awarded to the first three classified of the sub'14, sub'16 and sub'18 categories. Roberto Padilla (ADAL) was the winner of the sub'14 male category, completing the podium with the second position of Yerobe Rodríguez (Trimakina) and the third place of Dario Callero (ADAL). In the female category the winner was Aitana Rodríguez (ADAL), being accompanied on the podium by Maite Reyes (Lanzatletas) and Noa Camacho (Lanzatletas), second and third, respectively.

The triumph in the sub'16 male category was for Saúl Rodríguez (Lanzatletas), followed by his teammate Nauzet García (Lanzatletas) and the third position was for Lorenzo Albuixech (Triactiv). In the female category, Leyla Thom (Independent) climbed to the top of the podium of the sub'16 category, completing the podium with the second place of Lidia Reyes (Lanzatletas) and the third position of Ylenia Ruiz (ADAL).

The trophy presentation was completed with the sub'18 category. The male victory was for Harry Holdaway (Triactiv), being second Jorge Wilkes (Independent) and Saúl Escarabajal (Azarug Tinajo). In the female category, the victory was for Andrea Hernández (ADAL), being accompanied on the podium by Aurora García (ADAL) and Carla Castro (ADAL), second and third, respectively.

Many of these athletes will represent Lanzarote next weekend in the U16 and U18 Cross Country Championships of the Canary Islands. The competition will be held on the island of La Palma and Lanzarote will have the participation of 16 athletes. The last day of the cross-country modality of the Island Games of Sports Promotion was attended by Lorenzo Reyes, Minister of Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
