El Aborigen de Playa Blanca club wins 19 medals at the European Jiu Jitsu Championship

Loaded with medals, the eleven members of the El Aborigen de Playa Blanca club arrived from Switzerland, after competing in the European Jiu Jitsu Championship, held in the city of Morges on September 17 and 18.

The athletes, led by Cristofer Martín, master of the academy and founder of the club, won 19 medals in total, 9 gold, 9 silver and 1 bronze.

The gold medals were won by Andrea Bautista (2), Yanet Mendez (2), Carlos Gómez (2), María de la Concepción García, Francisco Miguel and Luis Alberto Carrara. The silver medals, on the other hand, were won by Cristofer Martín (2), Baruc Martín (2), María de la Concepción García, Carlos Gómez, Francisco Miguel, Lamine Hibaui and Kumar Ramnani, while the bronze was awarded to Cristofer Martín. By teams, the representation of Spain was in second place, only surpassed by Switzerland.

Pioneer club in Lanzarote

The master of this pioneer club in Lanzarote declares that the intention of El Aborigen is to compete to try to win, "so we train every day, from Monday to Saturday, in the different categories of weight and grade (belt)".

Martín explains that jiu jitsu has some similarity with judo, "but it is more extensive in the domain, the immobilization of the rival and the completion". Developed countries use jiu jitsu to train military and elite escorts, "because it is considered the most effective in martial arts", although in the sports field there are no blows, but immobilizations. "El Aborigen promotes the noble side of the sport", Martín emphasizes. In Spain there is a jiu jitsu federation and in the Canary Islands many academies, but few are legally registered, according to the head of El Aborigen, a club that is preparing intensely to have at least one representative in the World Cup in April in Abu Dhabi.

The El Aborigen club, founded in 2005, has been competing internationally since 2007 and currently has a significant representation of women, since of its 60 members there are at least 12 girls with very good figures. "The founders are natives of Playa Blanca and we understand that it is very fortunate that in the town there is the opportunity to practice jiu jitsu", concludes master of the academy and founder of the club.
