On Saturday afternoon, a new season kicked off in the Third Federation for UD Lanzarote, visiting Unión Sur Yaiza on the opening day. The "rojillos" let a two-goal lead slip, acquired in the first half thanks to goals scored by Ismael Traoré, and watched as in the second half the opponent was able to equalize, taking advantage of the expulsion of striker Gonzalo Di Renzo.
The match started well for UD Lanzarote, and it only took two minutes to take the lead. Ismael Traoré was brought down by Pablo inside the area, with the referee pointing to the clear penalty. Ismael Traoré himself was in charge of executing the penalty and making it 1-0. A few minutes later, Ismael Traoré increased the lead, finishing off a good cross from Gonzalo Di Renzo.
UD Lanzarote was enjoying themselves on the pitch and had chances to increase the difference. Ayoze, Ismael Traoré, Adrián Machín, and Gonzalo Di Renzo starred in the clearest chances, but the score remained unchanged, and the score was 0-2 at halftime.
The panorama of the match changed in the second half. In the 8th minute of the restart, Gonzalo Di Renzo was rigorously sent off after trying to finish a ball with an overhead kick and hitting defender Pablo in the face. The referee did not hesitate and showed him the direct red card. Minutes later, Miguel Gómez reduced the deficit by converting the second penalty of the afternoon, this time for a handball by Matheus inside the area.
Around the half-hour mark, Unión Sur Yaiza managed to equalize. Miguel Gómez executed a free kick from the left side, and Carlos Rosa headed the ball into the back of the net. Until the end of the match, the result could have gone either way.
In the end, a two-goal draw in the first match of the season, with the "rojillos" leaving with the feeling of having missed a good opportunity to add the three points. UD Lanzarote will host UD San Fernando in the second match, scheduled for Sunday, September 18 at 12:00 noon at the Ciudad Deportiva Lanzarote.
