A reader has contacted La Voz to denounce the operation of the Canary Islands Tax Agency with respect to the Customs of Las Palmas. According to the citizen, resident in Galicia but with family in Lanzarote, he sent a package for his granddaughter on May 16 but currently, the shipment is still held in these customs.

After sending the package through Correos, the reader says that "I declared its content and the price paid, inside the package I included the original purchase invoice, but since May 22 the package has been held at the Las Palmas Customs".

"I have tried to contact Customs in Las Palmas by telephone and there is no way. Still on June 4, I have tried and no one answers the phone. I have also sent a complaint to the Tax Agency who sent me an automatic email where they explain that it does not correspond to the Canary Islands Tax Agency, but that I should contact the State Tax Administration Agency to consult debts," he continues.

In his eagerness to try to solve the problem, "the girl's father has contacted Customs in Las Palmas and they ask him, among other things, for the completed and signed arrival notice that they have not received as of June 4... we do not understand what the problem is," he says.

The reader concludes by saying that "the postscript they put at the end informing that 'in the event that the declared merchandise does not match the actual content of the shipment, after a possible inspection by the Tax Agency, you will be exposed to an economic sanction' is a very clear declaration of inefficiency and/or customs inoperability. It is more efficient to inspect the shipment, see what it contains, issue a payment letter and, once issued, it is forwarded to the final recipient and the matter is concluded".
