The competition resumed for CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife, and the return to the court was marked by the good feelings shown by the team against one of the top teams in the standings. Throughout the match, San José Obrero had Replasa Beti-Onak on the ropes, but facing the game with five absences meant they had little depth on the bench, and it was in the final minutes that the Navarrese team ended up tipping the victory in their favor.
From the start of the match, CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife showed a rather combative attitude on the 40x20 court, trying to be solid in defense and effective in attack. After a series of goal exchanges, Beti-Onak took the lead for the first time with a goal from pivot Libe Arruabarrena (4-5). Goals from Mornesa Tensa, Melania Cabrera, and Gema Trujillo gave the home team a two-goal advantage (7-5).
It was a game with many shifts in play and on the scoreboard, with the score remaining tied until the final minutes of the period. The first half ended with a goal from Maialen Orbañanos for Beti-Onak, and a seven-meter play not called by the referees in favor of the home team. The halftime score was a tight 14 to 15 for the Navarrese.
At the start of the second half, Estitxu Rodríguez extended the lead for Replasa Beti-Onak to two goals. CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife kept pace with the game, and they equalized again with goals from Celia López and Rocío Squizziato. Just like the first half, the back-and-forth was constant throughout the second half.
With the score tied at 22 goals, after a goal from Gema Trujillo from 7 meters and Marilia Correia into an empty net, the match entered its final nine minutes. In the final moments, Replasa Beti-Onak took advantage of several turnovers in attack by the home team and several missed shots from six meters, to ultimately seal the duel. The Navarrese team made it 23-27 after a goal from Ayelen García from the wing, prompting Carlos Britos to call a timeout. The CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife did not lack courage, and with an all-court defense, they reduced the differences to tighten the score once again. The match ended with a score of 27 to 29, and the Lanzarote team will have another test this Saturday when they visit the court of Costa del Sol Málaga, a team that lost this Wednesday against Super Amara Bera Bera.
