The 2013-2014 basketball season faces its final stretch with extraordinary sports results for the Grubati Basketball Club.
The basketball club based in the municipality of Teguise has won the first island position in all lower categories: pre-minibasket, minibasket and pre-infant. Also in the infant category, it has achieved victory in the Lanzarote-Fuerteventura Interinsular League, facing in this case in the final the majorero CB Amuley.
The teams trained by Aday Villalba (pre-mini and minibasket) and Antonio Santana (pre-infant and infant) have thus achieved their qualification for the Canary Islands Championships in all lower categories. The infant team obtained a meritorious 5th place in the Canary Islands Championship, after surpassing teams such as the subsidiary of the ACB Iberostar Canarias team.
Grubati is already a respected rival that competes with the main teams in the Canary Islands, rivaling in Lanzarote with other clubs that are also doing a great job of training such as Magec Tías, the Tizziri Tinajo or the Conejeros, among other teams that compete in the men's category.
A difficult year
However, not everything has been joy in the current season. What has ended as a brilliant year in sports began with enormous difficulties to carry out its quarry work. The minimal economic support that grassroots sports clubs receive to develop their work was joined by the difficulty in finding a pavilion where the teams could train.
These limitations have not undermined the illusion of managers, coaches and families who have been able to overcome the difficulties by going to train in various places and fully paying for their presence in the Canary Islands Championships, assistance that otherwise would have been impossible.
