The 2026 Spanish Windsurfer Cup – Javier Hidalgo Memorial Kicks Off in Lanzarote

The competition organized by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife brings together nearly 80 sailors

The bay of Arrecife, in Lanzarote, becomes the epicenter of the windsurfer class this weekend, with the celebration of the 2026 Windsurfer Spanish Cup – Javier Hidalgo Memorial. The registered sailors had their first contact with the training race on Thursday, and it will be this Friday when the competition organized by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife officially begins. 

The most outstanding sailors on the national scene will gather in Lanzarote to compete in the 2026 Spanish Windsurfer Cup – Javier Hidalgo Memorial, with a final list of 78 registered participants. Among the registered participants, the presence of athletes from Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, France, and Finland also stands out, positioning the event among the most prominent in the class. 

The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, organizer of the event, will have the participation of nine sailors, who will try to leverage their home advantage on a race course they know perfectly. Ricardo Antonio Sáenz, José D. Marrero, Pedro Medina, Miguel Bethencourt, Eric Yoldjoglou, Carlos Morales, Nano Negrín, Queco Morales, and Amalia Calviño, are the club's representatives. 

The activity in the 2026 Spanish Windsurfer Cup – Javier Hidalgo Memorial began on Thursday with participant registration and the distribution and weighing of boards, which led to the practice race held in the bay of Arrecife. This Friday, at 11:00 AM, the skippers' meeting is scheduled, half an hour later the tribute to Javier Hidalgo will take place, and at 1:00 PM the start of the first official race is programmed. 

A total of nine races have been scheduled for the Copa de España, of which eight will be in the "course race" format and one in the long-distance format, with a maximum of four heats per day. After the races on Friday, which will begin at 1:00 PM, the competition resumes on Saturday at 12:00 PM, and the final day of racing will be on Sunday starting at 11:00 AM

The 2026 Spanish Windsurfer Cup – Javier Hidalgo Memorial is sponsored and supported by the Island Department of Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Department of Sports of the Arrecife City Council, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, the Royal Canary Islands Sailing Federation, the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism of Lanzarote (CACT), and SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote. It also has the support of Caixabank, Naviera Armas, Transmediterránea, Transportes y Excavaciones Tiagua, Grupo Cascada, CICAR, Gobycar, Rafael Betancort, and AUA España.
