Playa Blanca will fulfill its great appointment with adapted sports this year, presenting several new features on March 7 and 8 at the Handbike International Lanzarote. For the first time, the event is valid for the Spanish Road Paracycling Cup. This 2025 edition opens participation to athletes with tandem bicycles and adapted tricycles, and the attendance of the Spanish Paralympic team is guaranteed, as revealed last Friday by representatives of the organization led by the City Council.

On Friday, March 7 in the afternoon, there will be a time trial between Salinas de Janubio and Playa Blanca, a route of about 7.5 kilometers, while on Saturday, March 8, the call is for the circuit of just over two kilometers through the central streets of Playa Blanca, where handbikers reach their highest speed peak on Avenida Papagayo.

"Our municipality of Yaiza is committed to adapted sports and inclusion, and we are convinced that all of us, the entire society, must make more efforts to integrate people without discrimination of any kind. Promoting equal opportunities is a priority objective of Yaiza," says the mayor.

The Councilor for Sports, Ángel Lago, highlights that "in Playa Blanca we have an extraordinary elite athlete as a neighbor, such as Jonas Van de Steene, Paralympic medalist in Paris 2024 representing Belgium. Jonas is one of the great figures of the Handbike International Lanzarote." The presentation of the event's poster also included the non-elected Councilor for Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón, and the councilors of Yaiza, Águeda Cedrés and Beatriz Vázquez.

The Handbike International Lanzarote has the participation of federated judges and the authorization of the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation. In addition to the municipal organization of Yaiza, collaborating entities include Turismo Lanzarote, the Island Sports Service, and the association of athletes with disability certificates Para Todos Lanza en Canarias. Registrations open this Wednesday, February 5, and close on March 5 on the web.
