Playa Blanca hosted the fourth Regional Domino Tournament of the Canary Islands National Teams this Thursday, May 29, and Friday, May 30, which brought together the national teams of the eight Canary Islands, without exception, seven pairs for each of them, for a total of 112 participants who competed in games to 350 points or 60 minutes in duration, leaving the tournament as champion to Tenerife and the national teams of La Palma and Gran Canaria, as the second and third best classified, respectively.

At the opening ceremony on Thursday, the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, welcomed the delegations from all the Islands, thanking them for their visit to Playa Blanca and also expressing his gratitude to the collaborating companies that, together with the Yaiza City Council, made this meeting with sports and the Canarian tradition possible, namely THB Hotels, Campos de Lanzarote and Amanda Bus.

“Dominoes have been recognized as a sports modality in the Canary Islands since 2007 by the General Directorate of Sports, and this year the regional Parliament approved a Non-Legal Proposition to consider dominoes in the Islands a sport of cultural and social interest, so all efforts are valid to promote the value it treasures throughout the Canary Islands,” said the southern mayor, accompanied by Councilor Rubén Arca and the entire organizing team, including the president of the Canary Islands Domino Federation, Agustín León, and the director of the host hotel, Óscar Sepúlveda.

The competition took place in an atmosphere of camaraderie and emotions, and the teams were very happy with their reception in Playa Blanca and the institutional support of Yaiza, which they reiterated publicly both at the opening and closing of this fourth Regional Domino Tournament of the Canary Islands National Teams.
