The women's Division de Honor Oro team of Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen achieved a new victory this Saturday at the Antonio Moreno Insular Pavilion against Rocasa Gran Canaria (24-25) in a match corresponding to the second day of the Canary Islands Government Cup.
The match started favorably for the locals who, as the minutes of the first half passed, achieved a small advantage towards the final period (15-13).
The Tiñoseras improved in the restart and gradually reduced the distances on the scoreboard of the Antonio Moreno, but the locals reacted successfully to return to the three-goal advantage on the scoreboard. In the last ten minutes there was only one team on the court, Puerto del Carmen. Enough minutes not only to cut the difference on the scoreboard, but to skillfully get ahead when the game was dying.
Ricardo Aguilera's squad was left without being able to savor the victory after having been ahead on the scoreboard for more than fifty minutes of the match.
For the aurinegro coach, Jesús Casanova, it has been “another typical pre-season match, with a little more rhythm than the previous match. We also played against a more powerful rival than Romade with whom we played last Saturday. You can already see some things, but we still need to continue working on some concepts, especially the hardness in defense and we have to greatly increase the intensity because many games are lost there. As for the match, Rocasa took the lead from the first minute and was always ahead on the scoreboard, with counterattacks and penetrations through the center of our defense. Fortunately, with 10 or 15 minutes left, we increased the defensive intensity and managed to steal some balls and, in the last two minutes, attacking with numerical superiority, due to an exclusion from Rocasa, we were able to achieve the tie and in the end, with a few seconds left, the victory. Now it's time to continue working, working hard, we are on a good line of work. We have some deficiencies that we have to overcome little by little. Now on Wednesday we have a match against Morro and on Saturday again in Tenerife and let's see if, after these matches, the team picks up a more positive dynamic than we are showing right now, which, on the other hand, I also understand is normal in pre-season, with many new players, many new concepts, it is a process and it takes time to absorb all this,” concludes the Tiñosero coach.
The local Susana Martín became the top scorer for her team and the match with seven goals. In the Tiñosero team, Mónica Cabrera and Brenda Torres stood out, with four goals each.
Jesús Casanova's squad will receive the visit of Bm. Morro Jable VC on the third day of the Canary Islands Government Cup. In the only match played so far, they have lost against CB Perdoma (32-32). The match between the Lanzaroteñas and the Majoreras will be next Wednesday, September 10, at 5:00 p.m., at the Tías Municipal Pavilion.
