Lanzarote hosts the 'Puerto Calero Marlin Cup' fishing tournament this weekend

The 56 different crews from Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are competing for a place in the 2024 World Cup in Costa Rica

Punctual with the appointment, the 56 boats participating in the 'Puerto Calero Marlin Cup', on its 30th anniversary, took the start, determined to win that place for the world championship that will be held in Costa Rica in 2024.

Crews from Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and the faithful local conejera fleet confirmed their registration this Thursday at the usual meeting of skippers, where the jury reported the novelty in this veteran tournament, the only target species would be marlin, in the tagging and release mode and no fish will be brought ashore.

In addition to qualifying for Costa Rica, there are other incentives in this tournament such as the Cicar Grand Prize, which will go to the first boat to report three whites in the
two days of fishing. For the moment, and pending validation by the jury, on the first day, the boat El Monty of Rafael González takes the lead, with 500 points, being the first to report to the control, followed by Maynieves of Alfonso Valls, with another 500 points, the boat Sauvage of Wanad Barbera, Hasibi III of Fernando Luzardo with 100 and the Tenerife boat Chee Kee of Luis Javier López with another 100.

Upon arrival at the port, the crews were able to enjoy a preview of what will be Calero Marinas' new project in Fuerteventura, Marina Jandía, with a tasting offered by the operators of the group's new marina. Tomorrow will be the final day where the winner of this tournament will be defined, which celebrates thirty years and represents one of the most prestigious tournaments among lovers of this sport in the Canary Islands.

After the awards ceremony, the 'Motown Party Club' party, organized by the Amura group, will be in charge of putting the finishing touch to this celebration. Tickets can still be booked on the website.
