The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, accompanied by the Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, recently held a meeting with the vice president of the Canary Federation of Latin Sail Dinghies, Ana Curbelo, and the president of the Insular Federation, Pedro Robayna, to address the situation of this native sport on the island and discuss proposals to promote the practice of Latin sailing.

Oswaldo Betancort announced the commitment, on the part of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, to the creation of an Insular Latin Sailing School "to promote this sport among the new generations, create a quarry, and thus preserve one of the hallmarks of our archipelago."

The president expressed his commitment to Latin Sailing, highlighting that "there is a good understanding between the federations and the Cabildo. We are working, in a coordinated manner, on new actions to continue promoting this vernacular sport with so much enthusiasm in our islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa."

For his part, the Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, highlighted some of the improvements implemented in terms of sports infrastructure, such as the transformation works of the Insular Water Sports Center, which have involved the comprehensive renovation of the changing rooms, the dinghy stay area and the training room, in addition to the removal of the uralite roofs, complying with current regulations.

The Cabildo is already working on the second phase of transformation of the CID Náuticos, which will involve the modernization of the exterior, in addition to the construction of new shade areas and cabinets for the sails and the commissioning of a winch to facilitate the grounding of heavier boats.

During the meeting, the adaptation of the management of the nautical center to the needs of the users was also discussed and agreed upon to improve the use of spaces and times of use, both in training and in events.
