Yaiza Extremo Sur adds a new success with its fourth edition, an island and Canarian festival that perfectly mixes sport and landscape, concentrating this Sunday in the south of Lanzarote 500 athletes from all the Islands, athletes who competed in the trail run and MTB modalities with the presence of outstanding runners and cyclists, who in the case of the trail also participated with the added motivation of scoring in the Canary Islands Mountain Race Cup, since the event promoted by the Yaiza City Council is endorsed by the Canary Islands Mountaineering Federation.

A special atmosphere was already felt from Saturday with the distances and circuits adapted to boys and girls in both MTB and trail, the preamble to what would be the great event on Sunday where the weather was a great ally despite the occasional gust of wind that tested the preparation of the athletes. Óscar Noda, and the Councilor for Sports, Ángel Lago, welcomed the participants inviting them to enjoy the sport, the natural beauty of the municipality and the southern tourist services. For Yaiza, the tourist - sports segment is a priority.

Unlike previous editions, this year the trail and MTB disciplines were held in a single day that had its own names: Silvia Caso, with a time of 2:52:12.02 h, was the female gold of the 27 km trail modality, followed by Graciela Acosta (3:06:32.91h) and Dunia Cruz (3:06:39.74h).

The Lanzarote native and resident of Uga, Albi Cedrés, won the male gold after completing the circuit in 2:17:02.88h, after Santi Castellano (2:17:04.11h) waited for him, Cedrés thanking the gesture returned by his partner for waiting for him after suffering some discomfort. Pedro Juan Díaz (2:22:21.38h) would win the bronze in this modality.

Oti Suárez (1:34:48.00h), Sheila Falcón (1:35:29.00h) and Rosa María Chincoa (1:38:07.00h) topped the female podium of the 16 km trail route; while Edwin Camacho (1:09:56.00h), Tanausú Cabrera (1:14:07.00h) and Jonás Perdomo (1:15:18.00h) did the same in the male category.

The winners of the 8 km mountain race were Brenda Morín (35:36.00m) and Hugo Pérez (28:37.00m), in the female and male categories, respectively. Morín was followed by Elizabet Perdomo (37:24.00m) and Basmat Martín (37:38.00m). Daniel Casanova (28:38.00m) and Jacobo Hernández (28:47.00m) were male silver and bronze.

Emotions in MTB

As for the MTB modality, Tessa Kortekaas (2:53:13.28h) stood out, the only female participant in this tough 58 km route, and Antonio Padrón (2:30:37.78h). In the male category, Manuel Pérez (2:30:38.22h) and Alexander Hernández (2:35:08.92h) followed.

In the 35 km MTB circuit, Cristina Barrero achieved a time of 1:56:31.53h to win the gold, while the female silver and bronze went to Yobana Charlin (2:36:35.70h) and Jhuliana Hurtado (2:39:24.31h). In the male category, the winners were Borja Argibay (1:35:42.39h), Kiliam Peraza (1:37:28.30h) and Fran Arbelo (1:40:53.39h).
