UD Lanzarote will have next season a coach with extensive experience on the benches of the Second Division, Second Division “B” and Third Division, and who arrives with the purpose of leading a renewed and exciting sports project. The sports management of the rojillo club, led by José Antonio Sosa Espinel, has closed the incorporation of the Asturian coach Josu Uribe.

Jesús Uribesalgo Gutiérrez “Josu Uribe”, born on May 25, 1969 in Gijón, is a coach with more than 30 years of experience on the benches of Spanish football, beginning his career in the Real Sporting de Gijón team when he was only 21 years old. His record also includes a promotion to the First Division with Getafe CF in the 2003/2004 season, the first achieved by the Madrid team.

In the Second Division he has managed clubs such as UD Las Palmas, Getafe, Elche, Hércules, Alavés, Eibar and Girona, and in the Second Division “B” he has sat on the benches of teams such as Cultural Leonesa, Avilés, CD Mensajero, UD Melilla and Caudal.

In the campaign recently concluded early due to covid-19, he arrived with the season started to the bench of Xerez Deportivo FC, a team that he managed to qualify to play the play off for promotion to Second Division “B”. With the Andalusian team he managed 17 games, with a balance of 9 wins, 2 draws and 6 losses. Xerez Deportivo FC was eliminated in the semifinals of the play off by drawing a goal against Ciudad de Lucena.

It is not the first time that UD Lanzarote has been interested in the services of Josu Uribe and in the 2002/2003 season after closing an agreement with the rojillo team he disassociated himself when he received an offer from UD Las Palmas to train in Second Division “A”. Now he will have the opportunity to lead UD Lanzarote in the Canary group of the Third Division.
