The Costa Teguise Secondary School (IES) celebrated the 'VII edition of its traditional Apañada de las Ciencias', a multidisciplinary day that included the participation of hundreds of students, parents, mothers and visitors who were able to learn more about various native sports of the Canary Islands.
The Government of the Canary Islands, in collaboration with the Cabildos of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and numerous federations of the archipelago, promoted this open day to discover to the participants the ins and outs of disciplines such as Canarian bowls, Canarian wrestling, shepherd's leap, billarda, the calabazo or Latin sailing, among others.
Representatives of the regional Executive, the Teguise City Council and other institutions attended the educational center, as well as the president of the Canarian Federation of Latin Sailing Boats, Luis Toledo Romero; the president of the Insular Federation of Latin Sailing of Lanzarote, Pedro Robayna; the president of the Pelotamano Association, Juan Manuel Hernández; the vice president of the Canarian Shepherd's Leap Federation, Yurena Yaiza Pérez, and representatives of the Federation of Wrestling of the Canarian Garrote, the Canarian Federation of Canarian Bowls and Petanque and the Fuerteventura project Do not forget ours.
The representatives of these federations were present at the IES Costa Teguise to allow both students and their families to enjoy and have fun practicing these modalities, so important for the conservation of local traditions and sports, so characteristic and rooted in the popular Canarian culture.
