The sixth stage of the Lisbon-Dakar rally will be very difficult to forget for the two Lanzarote pilots José Manuel Galán and Adolfo Suances, who experienced a real odyssey to reach the finish line located in the town of Zouerat.

The stage was the first of those marked in red in the road book due to its extreme difficulty, since in it the pilots began to encounter the dreaded seas of dunes, which caused numerous problems for the vehicles, which were hopelessly buried in this hostile terrain.

The worst part was taken by the other Canary team participating in the rally, the couple formed by Roque and Quesada, who overturned several times with their vehicle and were out of the race. Galán and Suances, who witnessed the accident, stopped for more than half an hour to help their countrymen, although they did not get them back into the race.

Recovered from the scare, Galán and Suances continued their journey at a leisurely pace, not wanting to take excessive risks, although bad luck would once again strike our two pilots, who were stunned to find that the engine had run out of oil and they did not have a spare in the vehicle. This made them stop for fear that the car would not hold up, waiting for the charity of a pilot to lend them a can of oil.

After half an hour of waiting, the El Ejido team, formed by Eduardo Campoy and Barbero Reyes, stopped to help our two pilots, who were able to resume the test thanks to the fact that they provided them with a can of oil.

Finally, Galán and Suances crossed the finish line in 110th place, with a time of six hours and twenty-five minutes, which made them drop several places in the general classification, until they were in 103rd position.

Today the pilots will have to face the first stage of Mauritania, considered one of the toughest of this rally. With an extension of 500 kilometers, Galán and Suances will have to continue dodging the seas of dunes to get from Zouerat to Atar.
