This year, the César Manrique Trophy brings important novelties in relation to the sports theme. The most outstanding is the arrival, for the first time in the history of a sailing event organized in the Canary Islands, of the boats belonging to the TP52 class. These boats are known as the Formula 1 of Sailing and have created their own Mediterranean regatta circuit. In the case of Puerto Calero, it is the first time that they will use a regatta field in the Atlantic to carry out a test outside their official calendar.
Bigamist, Anónimo and Caixa Galicia, among others, are some of these impressive boats that will ensure visual and sporting spectacle. One of the particularities of this class is that they race in real time, so following the test live or through television allows you to know the winner from the moment they cross the established finish line.
On the other hand, this year a record participation of attendees has been achieved. The number of boats confirmed up to this moment is around 70 and the registration period still extends until October 12 inclusive.
This year's social and sports program includes an inaugural concert, an official dinner offered by the Lanzarote Tourist Board
at the Farmer's Monument, a private dinner for sailors and shipowners followed by a large themed party "about pirates". On Sunday, after the last tests, the awards ceremony will be held for the champions of each category.
A website has also been developed, [www.trofeopuertocalero.com->http://www.trofeopuertocalero.com] , where participants and the general public can follow in detail the information that is happening around this test, the registered boats of each category and even the possibility of downloading screensavers or desktop backgrounds alluding to the regatta. There is a blog where various debates will be raised soon, as well as a classifieds section, where you can search for boats or crew members, among other things. During the days of the regatta you can follow minute by minute the incidents on the high seas, in real time.
According to the organizers, the César Manrique Puerto Calero regatta, "despite the few years that it has been held, has already reached a high level of maturity, thus becoming one of the Canarian sports references of all time." Two years ago it became part of the Spanish High Level Cruise Championship, becoming the last scoring event and therefore, a key and exciting meeting of the circuit.
